The Live Theatre Winchester Trust invited a small group of contemporary artists to reimagine The Rotunda and deliver an event for the Winchesters Woolly Hat Fair 2017. Kate Aries, Kate Sully and Laura Perkins produced a light and video installation to accompany a theatrical performance by Ava Hunt, Charlie Richards and Kevin Brewer, (script written by Richard Hurford). The work told the autobiographical and fragmentary tale of the Lighthouse Keeper and her enduring connection to Winchester. This provided an aesthetic and narrative framework for the artists to explore themes of impermanence and transition in human life. As visitors approached The Rotunda creative lighting illuminated the area and united the architecture with the after-dark scenery. Making use of the buildings unique structures, fragments of text on intertitles and black and white moving-imagery were projected in all directions, this left the audience in anticipation of what would come next. The work was warmly and enthusiastically received by both the public and the Hat Fairs Director Andrew Loretto.
