Living Portraits

Video Installation,  2018

Kate was asked to take part in an intergenerational multimedia art project for the Celebrating Age project. A series of short films were created inspired by the lives and experiences of older residents of Winchester, the 'Portraits' were showcased at St John's Chapel in Winchesters during the 2018 Hat Fair and then again at Corby's Grow Festival.

SDNA worked closely with the artists to guide them through the process of producing their videos. Kate invited Winchester resident Sue to tell stories about her childhood, travels and marriage and express her thoughts on contemporary issues of gender and inequality. it was a beautiful exchange for both parties who had the openness to listen to one another. The finished piece tied together past and present and unfolded the life of Sue, a woman who had lived a rich and fascinating life. It also brought art and history so directly to the people of the community which made it possible for all generations to appreciate and enjoy.

The Celebrating Age Project is funded by the Arts Council England and Baring Foundation Celebrating Age grant.
